Despite its name, Amazonite does not come from the Amazon River. The most famous modern deposits are found in Russia, Madagascar, Brazil, and the United States (especially Colorado).

• The name “Amazonite” came from early European explorers who believed the green stones found near the Amazon were this mineral, though none have actually been found there.
